Ethan Burke qualifies #1 at Carman Singles Tournament
Senior Ethan Burke led qualifying for boys at the Carman Ainsworth Singles Tournament on Sunday, February 2nd at Grand Blanc Lanes. Ethan had a 4 game total of 890 to lead the tournament and was the only Kearsley boy to be named to the all tournament team. Ethan, Howie Hammond and Gage Slagor were the only 3 Kearsley bowlers to make the cut to the top 32. Ethan Burke and Howie Hammond worked their way all the way to the final 4 before being eliminated. Officially Howie finished 3rd and Ethan 4th in the tournament. Congratulations guys!

Varsity boys defeated Flushing in the finals to win the first ever Flint Metro Conference Team Challenge at Cherry Hill Lanes in Clarkston on Saturday, January 25th. Gage Slagor finished the 10th frame with 3 strikes for the team to win the match by 39 pins.

The Varsity Boys defeated Brandon in a close match 22-8 after winning the first Baker game with a 242 Baker game and losing the 2nd Baker game with a 190 game. The team pulled out a close first game when Gage Slagor struck out in the 10th frame to win the game. Ethan Burke led the team with games of 213 and 182, Kyle Langworthy had games of 211 and 178 and Gage Slagor had games of 200 and 181. The varsity boys are now 2-0 on the season.

the try outs for the 2018-2019 season are complete. This year's try outs were led by Freshman Gage Slagor who bowled a 300 game in the first try out and led all 15 boys trying out this year. The varsity team this season will be Gage Slagor, Ethan Burke, Laswson Boshaw, Kyle Langworthy, Devin Smith, Rodney Baltosser and Nathan Maxwell.

Varsity Boys Defeat Linden 28-2 to move to 10-2 on the season
The Kearsley Hornets went into their match with Linden looking to keep pace at the top of the league standings with Swartz Creek. The Hornet boys started slow in Owosso against Linden in the first baker game but still took a 154-121 win. In the second baker game Kearsley was able to take a 180-123 win and taking a 10-0 point lead into the team game portion of the match. In the first game Kearsley pulled out a 952-789 win highlighted by Jake Reid’s 222. Justin Todd and Chase Gebhardt combined for a 205, and Kyle Langworthy shot a 203. Nathan Maxwell pulled out a win with a 157. In the second team game Justin Todd led the way with 235 followed by Seth Varner with a 212. Kyle Langworthy pulled out a win with 185 and Chase Gebhardt and Nathan Maxwell combined for a 136 and a win. The 936 total gave the Hornets another win and additional 4 points putting the final score of the match at 28-2.
Varsity Boys win Metro Conference Championship Tournament
The Kearsley Hornet Varsity Boys Bowling team got their first tournament win Sunday at the Flint Metro Conference Championship. During the three game qualifier Chase Gebhardt led the entire tournament topping the boys all tournament team with games of 239, 246, 258 for a 749 series. Jake Reid followed with a 655 on games of 246, 225, and 184. The Hornets started out with the first game of the qualifying round with a 1071 just 5 pins behind first. The next two games of 1085, 1027 gave the Hornets a total of 3183. Other Kearsley highlights were Kyle Langworthy 206, 200, Seth Varner 203, and Justin Todd a 213. The top 8 teams went in to a round robin baker style next round. Kearsley had its ups and downs through the 7 games having a high game of 213, and low of a 156. The Hornets were able to hang on to the third spot and made the final 4 bracket. The Hornets faced off against Genesee in the first round in a 2 game baker total match. Kearsley jumped out to a 34 pin lead the first game when Lawson Boshaw struck out in the 10th for a 225-191. In the second game the Hornets took a commanding lead in the first 4 frames before they began to falter throwing opens in the 7th, 8th, and 9th frames they still had a chance to close out the match with 2 strikes in the 10th. Lawson Boshaw was unable to match the first game leaving a spare on the first shot. When the anchor bowler from Genesee got the first strike only 1 more strike was needed to close out the match and send the Hornets home. The anchor bowler for Genesee left a solid 9 pin which meant that Lawson Boshaw had to pick up his spare and get 6 pins to win. With the spare and a strike Kearsley beat Genesee 383-378. In the finals the Hornets faced off against the tournament leaders Bay City Western. Kearsley took control of the match early and never let go. The first game the Hornets jumped out to a 219-189 giving them a 30 pin edge going into the 2nd game. During that 2nd Nathan Maxwell started a streak that would see Kearsley string strikes throwing the last 5 for a 223-165 and giving them the tournament win with a 442-354 match win and their 1st tournament win of the 2017-2018 season.
Varsity Boys defeat Flushing to move to 6-1 on the season
Kearsley Hornet Boys met Flushing at Holly Lanes in a showdown between one loss teams. In the first baker game Flushing beat the Hornets 226-181, and the second baker game the Hornets fought back to a 192-176 win. Totals went to Flushing 403-373 giving them a 6-4 point advantage going into the team game portion of the match. Led by Senior Jake Reid with an formidable 290 Kearsley took totals 1074-1002. The Hornets also had high scores from Lawson Boshaw 216, Seth Varner 194, and Chase Gebhardt a 213. In the second game of the team game portion Lawson Boshaw led the Hornets with a 236 followed by Chase Gebhardt 195, Seth Varner 190, and a combination of Nathan Maxwell and Kyle Langworthy to have a 190. The 991-974 game score closed up a 20-10 win for the Hornets and sending them into the next match with Brandon High still tied for first place with a 6-1 record.

Kearsley boys entered Saturdays contest with Clio with a record of 4-1. The Hornets lost the first baker game with a score of 166-194, however were fortunate enough to squeeze out a 169-160 second baker game. Kearsley was behind 335-354 totals for baker and a 6-4 deficit in the match. Seth Varner led the Hornets in the first team game in a resounding way by starting out the game with the first 10 strike before leaving a 4 pin and ending up with a 289. Kearsley had a total game score of 1066 with Nathan Maxwell coming away with a 193, Kyle Langworthy a 216, and Chase Gebhardt a 211. After the first team game the match was Kearsley 12 Clio 7. Needing just 4 points to win the match the Hornets took care of business. Nathan Maxwell 190, Seth Varner 174, Kyle Langworthy 225, Chase Gebhardt 245, and Jake Reid 209 gave Kearsley 1043 and a 20-10 win. The Hornets will take a 5-1 into their match against Flushing Saturday at Holly Lanes.

Varsity boys finish 6th in Bangor John Glenn Holiday Tournament
The Kearsley Hornets traveled to Monitor Lanes in Bay City Saturday for the Bangor John Glenn Holiday Tournament. The Hornets came out strong in qualifying shooting a 1047 the first game. Lead by Senior Seth Varners 236, followed by Senior Chase Gebhardts 230 and Junior Kyle Langworthys 215 the Hornets took an early lead. Kearsley followed it up with 1070 the second game. In the second game Chase Gebhardt set the pace blasting a 267 once again Kyle Langworthy followed with 247 and Seth Varner a 236. In the final team game Kyle Langworthy paced the hornets with 248, Chase Gebhardt finished his set with 225, and Seth Varner 191 sending Kearsley into baker portion of qualifying with a 1021 and the top spot. It was a great showing for the hornets placing 3 people on the all tournament team. Chase Gebhardt led the tournament with a 722, Kyle Langworthy was second with 710, and Seth Varner took the final spot with 663. The baker portion of the qualifying was 6 baker games with the ability to throw out the lowest game. The Hornets last baker game was a 130 and with trowing that game out they averaged a 189 in bakers and held on to the high qualifying spot going into match play. In the first round of best 2 out of 3 baker game match the Hornets faced off against Reese. Kearsley struggled but were able to sweep Reese in 2 games. In the round of 8 the Hornets faced off against Owosso. Owosso came out strong and beat the Hornets the first game 196-172. Kearsley still had life with the ability to win 2 straight games but just couldn’t keep up although they came up with a 201 Owosso knocked them out of the tournament and giving them a 6th place finish with a 203. The next event is a Metro League match against Linden on Thursday at Grand Blanc Lanes.
Varsity Boys finish 10th in Bakers Dozen Tournament
The Kearsley Hornet Boys competed in the Bakers Dozen on Sunday at Monitor Lanes in Bay City. The Hornets struggled at the start but were able to turn it around the second half of qualifying to qualify fifth. Kyle Langworth, Chase Gebhardt, Seth Varner, Jake Reid, Justin Todd, and Nathan Maxwell were able to all play key parts throughout the day to finish with a 2488 total for 13 games giving them a 191 average. During the 13 games the Hornets were able to win 8 of the 13 matches including a three game set of 221, 212, and 211 giving them 3 consecutive wins. In the match play round Kearsley was matched up against Owosso in the first round. Match play consisted of a 2 game total baker match. The Hornets struggled in that match play in the first game they fell 39 pins back 139-178. In the second game Owosso proved to be too much for the Hornets beating them 163-198 and knocking Kearsley out and giving them a 10th place finish.
Varsity Boys defeat Holly 17-13 to move to 3-1 on season
The Hornet Boys went into their match against Holly coming off a sweep of Fenton in the first half of a double match at Cherry Hill Lanes in Clarkston Saturday. Kearsley started the match off slow with a 152 in baker losing to a 189 and going down 4-0. Although the Hornets were able to come out with a 223 second baker game it proved to not be enough Holly edged out Kearsley with a 226 giving them a 10-0 lead heading into the team games and only needing 6 points to close out the match. Nathan Maxwell lead the way in the first team game with a 215, and Seth Varner followed with a 204 giving the Hornets their only 2 match wins, however Chase Gebhardts 215 and big strikeout in the 10th frame gave Kearsley the totals win and 4 more points keeping the match alive with a 13-6 Holly advantage going into the last game. In the last game the Hornets came out on fire and in the end proved to be too much for Holly. Seth Varner who lead Kearsley all day came through again with a 227, Chase Gebhardt followed with a 221. Nathan Maxwells 199, Kyle Langworhy 184, and Jake Reid 163 gave Kearsley an entire game sweep and gave the Hornets a 17-13 win pushing their record to 3-1 heading into a match with Linden at Grand Blanc Lanes on Wednesday night.
Varsity Boys Defeat Fenton 30-0 to move to 2-1 on season
The Hornets took on Fenton Saturday at Cherry Hill Lanes in Clarkston. Kearsley Boys struggled coming out in the baker portion of the match, but were still able to come out with a 10-0 lead winning both games. During the team games the Hornets were able to put together their best combination of 2 game match so far this season. In the first game Kearsley was lead by Nathan Maxwell with a 219 and Jake Reid 211 for a 947 and complete sweep. The second game locked up the first clean sweep of the year for the Hornets with Chase Gebhardt leading the way with a 224 to a 902 game total Kearsley finished with a 30-0 win and improved their record to 2-1.
Varsity Boys Defeat Owosso 22-8 to move to 1-1 on season
The Hornet Boys Bowling Team took down Owosso 22 to 8 at Holly Lanes Monday night. Coming off a loss on Saturday to Swartz Creek Kearsley looked to have a strong start against Owosso. In the first baker game they fell 200 to 184, however the second game bounced back with a 213 win to a 182 also giving them the 395-382 total win coming out of baker portion with a 6-4 point lead. Kearsley jumped out in the first game with a 1001 total.Senior Seth Varner led the Hornets in the first team game with 221 he was followed by Senior Chase Gebhardt 213 giving them 7 total points in the first game and taking a 13 to 6 advantage into the final game. The Hornets started slow in the last game struggling to catch their stride, they finally caught that stride in the seventh frame and 8th frame throwing 8 out of 10 strikes and taking command of the match. Chase Gebhardt led the way with a 215 and a 428 total. Seth Varner fired a 201 giving him a 422 total and Kyle Langworthy a 204 for a 405 total. The 975 second game gave the Hornets a 22-8 victory and their first win of the season. They head into a double match at Cherry Hill in Clarkston with a 1-1 record and ready to face off against Fenton and Holly.
Boys have 4 that make cut at Lanse Creuse Singles TOurnament
Kearsley Hornet boys have good showing at the L’Anse Creuse North Singles Tournament. The Hornet boys came out struggling to start the tournament at Imperial Lanes but were able to continue to compete and ended up getting 4 boys into the cut of top 32. Chase Gebhardt was the highest qualifying Hornet with games of 167, 166, 214, and 227 with a total of 774 he was the 26th qualifier. Kyle Langworthy qualified 27th on scores of 151, 183, 248, and 183 for a 765 total. Seth Varner with games of 174, 227, 207, and 155 a total of 763 qualified 29th, and Jake Reid had games of 170, 172, 204, and 214 to qualify tied for 31st. During the match play portion of the tournament both Kyle Langworthy and Seth Varner lost in the first round of the single game elimination format. Jake Reid fell in the second round the final 16. Chase Gebhardt rode wins in first 2 rounds with games of 222 and 231 putting him into the elite 8 coming up just short in that round finishing in 6th place. The Hornets next tournament will be the Kick Off Baker in Lansing December 10th.
Varsity Boys drop close one to Swartz Creek in season opener
The Hornet boys started out the 2017-2018 Flint Metro Conference season with a close lose to its strong rival Swartz Creek. Kearsley won the first baker game of the year 199-191 before falling to a 200-207 loss the second game but carrying the totals and getting the 2 extra points for totals giving them a 6-4 lead going into the team games. In the team game portion the dragon proved to be just strong enough to edge the Hornets out for the first match of the season. In the team games Kyle Langworthy blasted a 248, and 203, Chase Gebhardt had a 235 and 203 and Seth Varner shot a 203. The Hornets tried to hang on and fought giving this young team a chance to start the year off with a win just coming up short. Kearsley will take on Owosso on Monday for their second match of the season.

Varsity Boys Finish 2nd in metro conference championship tournament at Richfield Bowl
The Kearsley Varsity Boys Bowling team hosted the Metro Team Championships tournament at Richfield Bowl Sunday January 15. The tournament began with a three individual team game qualifier followed by the top 8 bowling 7 baker game matches before cutting to the top 4 in a bracket style finals to crown the champion. In the 3 game qualifier the Hornets led the field with a total of 3252 which included a 1194 the 2nd highest game bowled this year in the state. Although they struggled in the baker match play portion of the tournament they were able to hold on to 4th place and make it to the finals. In the first match they faced off against the number 1 seed Davison. Kearsley came out of the first game with a 17 pin lead with a 180 to 163 baker game. The Hornets second game proved to be too much for the Cardinals Kearsley pulling away with a 144-227 giving them a 2 game total win of 407-307 and sending them into the finals against Lapeer. In that final match Kearsley struggled early and Lapeer came out on fire the final 2 game total was Lapeer 479-325 giving the Hornets the second place finish. Highlights for the individual qualifiers were Brandon Wheeler 231 224 236 for a 691 and a 3rd place finish for all tournament team. Bryce McKerchie a 209 214 235 658, Chase Gebhardt a 181 220 243 644, Kyle Langworthy a 267, Jake Reid 213, and Zach Timm a 213.

In the first team game Kearsley caught their stride and came out striking early putting pressure on the Dragons. The Hornets won 4 out of 5 matches led by Jake Reids 247 along with Kyle Langworthy 216, Brandon Wheeler 171, and Bryce McKerchie 225, only losing one point and winning totals with a team score of 1065 they had shortened the gap in the match to a 11 to 8 deficit. The Kearsley Varsity Boys Bowling team traveled to Bay City for the Bangor John Glenn Holiday Tournament and came home with their first tournament win of the season. During Qualifying all seven players, Aaron Linn, Brandon Wheeler, Zach Timm, Jake Reid, Bryce McKerchie, Chase Gebhardt, and Kyle Langworthy made contributions to getting the Hornets to a number 4 seed. Bryce McKerchie led the way with games of 215, 222, 242 for a 679 placing him third on the all tournament team. In the first round of the top 16 match play Kearsley faced off against Owosso in a best 2 out of 3 baker game format. The first game the Hornets blasted a 256 against Owosso’s 209. In the second game Kearsley took down Owosso with a 208 to 203 victory placing them into the final 8. Oscoda awaited the Hornets and in the first game Kearsley came out with a win 172 to 139. The second game Kearsley beat Oscoda 216 to 139 propelling them into the final four stepladder. The first round of the one game shootout the Hornets took on hometown team Bangor John Glenn, and although they struggled, when the anchor bowler from John Glenn opened in the tenth Bryce McKerchie stepped up and through 3 strike locking up a 150 to 147 win. Next up was another hometown team Bay City Western. The Hornets got back on pace and took Western down with a 213 to 171 victory sending them into the finals to face Davison. The finals switched back to a best 2 out of 3 baker game format, and Kearsley jumped out on Davison with a 242 to 160 win. In the second and what proved to be the final game of the tournament the Hornets brought home the tournament championship winning 203 to 157. Kearsley averaged 207 in baker games and never lost a baker game en-rout to their championship. Next up is the Bakers Dozen right back at monitor lanes on Sunday 12/18.
Varsity Boys bowl 299 Baker Game in Match against Holly and move to 4-0 on the season
The Kearsley Boys jumped out on Holly at Grand Blanc Lanes with a league high baker set of 520 with games of 221 and 299. The Hornets made their bid for perfection in the second game of bakers. Jake Reid, Chase Gebhardt, Bryce McKerchie, and Aaron Linn handed the game to Brandon Wheeler with all 9 strikes heading into the 10th frame. Wheeler stepped up and made 3 great shots getting the first 2 strikes before leaving a 10 pin on the last shot. In the team games Zach Timm lead the way with games of 257 and 223. Chase Gebhardts 203, Bryce McKerchie 203, and Brandon Wheelers 236 helped finish off the Broncos with a 21-9 victory. The win takes the Hornets record to 4-0 going into a big match against Swartz Creek on Tuesday December 20th.

Varsity Boys Defeat Flushing 16-14 to move to 3-0 on the season
The Kearsley Hornet Boys Bowling team dug a very deep hole against Flushing High in the second match on Saturday. After struggling through a 179-177 pair of baker games there was no room for error in team games. The Hornets came out the first game beating Flushing 1022 to 1010 hi-lighted by Zach Timm 224, Aaron Linn 234 coming out with 6 points making the score 13-6. In the last game the Hornets proved their medal with only losing one individual match and scores of Zach Timm 230, Aaron Linn 216, Brandon Wheeler 185, and Bryce Mckerchie locking up the win with a 237. Giving the Hornets a huge comeback win of 16-14 the win keeps them undefeated in the Metro League with Holly up next.
Varsity Boys Defeat Brandond 23-7 to move to 2-0 on the season
In the first match of two on Saturday the Boys Varsity Bowling Team took on Brandon High and prevailed. The match started with the highest baker set by a Kearsley boys team in over a year with a 236 and 217 giving them a 10-0 lead. The Hornets kept rolling in first team game blasting their season high 1129 with games of Zach Timm 217, Chase Gebhardt 225, Brandon Wheeler 289 which included a bid for 300 with the first 10 strikes, Aaron Linn 195, and Bryce Mckerchie 203. Kearsley wrapped the match up the last game with an 898 Brandon Wheeler shooting 202 giving him a total of 491 an average of 246. Hornets went to 2-0 with a 23-7 win

Varsity Boys finish as State Runner Up's
The Varsity boys qualified 2nd in the state finals and worked their way through Escanaba and then won a hard fought battle with Lake Shore and moved into the finals against Lansing Eastern a team they just defeated for the Regional title a week earlier but the Lansing Eastern boys put up a huge score in the finals as the Kearsley boys came up short by a final score of 1444 to 1288. The 2nd place finish by the Hornets capped off an incredible season that seen the boys win a couple of tournaments and their 3rd straight Regional title.
